Highlights of Heppenheim

Half-timbered houses, fine wines and old legends
Discover the highlights of the southernmost district city of Hesse in one day. Come on, breathe in history while strolling on narrow, winding streets and alleys of Heppenheim's old town with its picturesque half-timbered houses. During the guided tour of the historic centre, you will discover witnesses of the past such as the Kurzmainzer Amtshof, the historic market place and the „Dom der Bergstrasse“ - St. Peter's Church.

After the guided tour of the historic centre, you will discover the city’s landmark – Starkenburg Castle. Enjoy the stunning view of the Bergstrasse region. Learn about the castle’s exciting history and listen to romantic and tragic legends associated with the castle. Afterwards you will visit a nearby restaurant for lunch. There you will have an opportunity to taste regional as well as Odenwald specialities and the famous apple cider.
After the break, you will start your walking tour of the Heppenheim vinyards. An expert guide of the Bergsträsser Winzer eG will accompany you on the „Erlebnispfad Wein und Stein“ – „wine and stone experience path“. Between Heppenheim and Bensheim you will hear interesting facts on topics covering the wine, grape varieties, geology and climate. You will have the opportunity to taste three fine wines.
